The Meaning Behind Our Name
WHAT IS PROHIBITION 37?
In 1937, Congress enacted the Marihuana Tax Act. The act imposed a heavy tax against anyone using the plant. Failure to pay the extortionate tax meant a fine up to $2000 and five years in jail. This led to the Boggs Act in 1951 which established mandatory sentencing for drug offenses for the first time in the US.
The Marihuana Tax Act of 1937 created strict restrictions and heavy penalties that effectively criminalized cannabis. Prohibition 37 honors that history while shaping a new future built on education, safety, and responsible access.
